Taler | GNU-Taler – a digital, but private way to pay

Springer.com published a paper concerning the plans for the digital Euro. Following the analysis the authors Mikolai Gütschow & Bernd Lucke come to the conclusion: The best way would be to use the privacy friendly payment system Taler.

Mhm, Bargeld ist auch nicht mehr das, was man mal dachte, dass es wäre. Noch ein Grund mehr das Taler Projekt zu pushen und weiter zu beobachten

Für alle, die ein privatsphäreschützendes, digitales Bezahlsystem mit zur Marktreife führen wollen, gibt es jetzt die einmalige (naja, vielleicht kommen noch ein paar) Chance Taler zu unterstützen.

Wichtig: Um das Wallet zu testen, - wird neben einem Schweizer Konto - auch eine schweizerische Mobilfunknummer benötigt.

There is already a fantasy currency called Kudos in your Taler Wallet-App (iOS, PlayStore, F-Droid). If you want, you play around with it. Inspire a friend to install the app as well. So you can transfer Kudos form one wallet to the other. Just via Messenger, E-Mail over a distance or with qr-code or nfc if you are sitting together. How it works for you? Do you have questions? For me it works pretty well. But I haven’t tried nfc with kudos. Do you?

Simply hold smartphone briefly at the checkout – the invoice amount has already been paid. That’s really handy. But how much data flows? With the classic digital payment methods, the data traces are more or less, but they are always there.
